What exactly is Chili Con Queso?
Firstly, “Chili
Con Queso” is Spanish for “chili with cheese”. It is sometimes referred to as
just plain Queso, and it is an appetizer or side dish served in restaurants.
Chili Con Queso is basically a smooth and creamy, melted cheese and chili
pepper sauce. The melted cheese can be a blend of Velveeta, Monterey Jack,
Cream cheese, or other processed cheeses. The chili pepper can be in the form
of a canned tomato and chili pepper mix, otherwise it can also be freshly
prepared. Other added ingredients used are pico de gallo, black beans,
guacamole, and ground beef or pork. This sauce is typically prepared to be used
with nachos, tortilla chips, tacos, fajitas, migas, enchiladas or any other
Tex-Mex dishes, or even just for dipping.
